There are only three ways to earn an LPGA Tour card: The first, and most common method is to finish in the top 15 at the LPGA Qualifying School. Another way is to play well on the Duramed FUTURES Tour—the top-five players on the tour’s money list earn LPGA exempt cards at the end of the year. The third, and most difficult route is to win an LPGA event as a non-member. In the past 10 years, only three women have succeeded in earning a tour membership this way: All three are Korean; all three did it by winning the CJ Nine Bridges Classic (the lone LPGA event held in South Korea, now known as the KOLON-Hana Bank Championship, or simply the Korea Championship); and in all three cases, the victory changed their lives to such an extent that the Korean press dubbed each of them a “Cinderella.” For the full story on the three Cinderellas subscribe to our FREE digital edition.... |
