It wasn’t too long ago when Casey Watabu was making plans for a life without competitive golf. As an undergraduate on the University of Nevada, Reno golf team, Watabu struggled mightily through his first two seasons and barely cracked the varsity team’s starting lineup. Forced to at least consider a Plan B to a golf career, he carefully selected a major, eventually opting for biology. He thought he might go to pharmacy school after graduating. Then a funny thing happened: Casey Watabu got good. He got really good.

There are only three ways to earn an LPGA Tour card: The first, and most common method is to finish in the top 15 at the LPGA Qualifying School.
Another way is to play well on the Duramed FUTURES Tour—the top-five players on the tour’s money list earn LPGA exempt cards at the end of the year.
The third, and most difficult route is to win an LPGA event as a non-member. In the past 10 years, only three women have succeeded in earning a tour membership this way:

Tiger Woods adds his name to the list of PGA Tour pros who have launched golf course design companies, but Jack Nicklaus is still the gold standard.
Tiger Woods is serious about following in Jack Nicklaus’s footsteps—and not just when it comes to chasing after the golf legend’s career record for major championship titles.
In November, Woods announced the formation of his new golf course design company, Tiger Woods Design. With this move, Woods is poised to compete with Nicklaus’s vastly successful golf course design business, Nicklaus Design.

At 21, Anthony Kim leaves the collegiate circuit to tackle professional golf as one of the youngest players on the PGA Tour.
If you haven’t heard of Anthony Kim, here’s your chance to get ahead of the name-dropping game.
Last fall at the PGA WEST Stadium Golf Course in La Quinta, Calif., 21-year-old Kim became the youngest player to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2007 season. He claimed one of 40 spots in the final round of the qualifier, tying for 13th place and beating 163 contenders.
