Tiger takes home No. 13. Quite a weekend for Tiger Woods, though I can’t say I was surprised. Everything seemed to be coming together for Woods the week before the PGA, and—this just in—when he’s on top of his game, Tiger is unbeatable. He was at his best only once in four rounds in Southern Hills, when he shot a sizzling second-round 63. But that was enough. After the second round, it was back on cruise control, grinding out the pars until he clutched the trophy. Woods 13th major comes after his 44th event, and he is well ahead of the pace set by Jack Nicklaus, who took 53 events before winning his 13th. My hunch is that Tiger passes Jack’s 18 career majors in five years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up less than that. Now on to some new business: Last week I hinted that there were some potentially interesting new things on the horizon for this blog. Later today I reveal one surprise. Stay tuned. |
