It’s another big week in the world of golf. Tiger Woods is in the midst of his first week as a competitor-slash-host at the AT&T National in Washington, D.C. The event is getting the full treatment from all of the major sports news outlets, as you’d expect when Tiger Woods is involved. So far, Tiger looks like, well, a tired papa. He’s eight off the lead as I write this. Barring a remarkable turnaround (something that we couldn’t even speculate happening with anyone other than Mr. Woods) it looks like Tiger’s inaugural event will have a champion who is not named Tiger. That seems strange. Over on the LGPA, last weekend Christie Kerr showed the most fortitude under collar-strangling conditions to win the U.S. Women’s Open. Poor Lorena Ochoa. Once again the world’s No. 1 player was in position to win her first career major. Once again, she appeared to crack under pressure, unleashing a few loose tee shots down the stretch that cost her any chance at making up a 2-shot deficit. The Open was a good one for Asian golfers, led by teenage phenom Angela Park who finished T-2. Look for more on the continued dominance of Asian players on the LPGA in an upcoming issue of the magazine. And finally, I’ve decided that it’s time to change the name of this blog. I mean “Blogs by Jeff Ritter” is effective as a description for what in fact occupies this space. But that’s no blog name. I require something clever. And with that, I’ll open it up to you. Got an idea for a blog name? Send it my way at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . Hope everyone had a safe, enjoyable 4th. Enjoy the weekend. |
