A new adventure awaits

Exciting news here at the worldwide blog: I’m hitting the road again.

Destination: The Philippines.

It promises to be a fantastic trip, filled with sights, sounds, culture, and course, some really good golf. For those of you who are like me and have never visited the Philippines, here are a few fun Filipino facts to tide you over until I arrive next week to give you the inside scoop:

* The Philippines is a chain of 7,107 islands, or one for every Diet Coke slammed by John Daly in the month of June.

* It is the third-largest English-speaking country in the world. The nation’s other official language is Filipino, which reminds me…

* …Perhaps in a tribute to American youth culture, they have a tendency to replace the “Ph” with an “F” while referring to its indigenous people and language. (Ex: Visit the Philippines, and learn the Filipino language.) It remains unclear if, in further homage to America’s youth, the country might one day change its name to “The Filli-Pizzle,” or possibly "The P-H-P."

* While America is a year away from possibly electing its first female president, the Philippines are already there, evidenced by current prez Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

* This isn’t a religious blog, but it’s worth noting that a whopping 83 percent of the population is Catholic.

* With a population of more than 10 million, Manila is one the world’s largest urban agglomerations. Now on my Filipino to-do list: throw out the word “agglomeration” in casual conversation.

It promises to be another exciting trip, and it can’t come fast enough. So after you polish off your turducken—that’s a chicken, stuffed in a duck, stuffed in a turkey; it’s glorious—check beck next week for “Scenes from the Philippines.”

See you in Manila.
